This is wild but the photos from the Vogue World runway show are not good. (You can eyeball the guests here.) It does not seem that Getty Images had a photographer placed at the end of the runway to get proper runway shots, even the pics from the New York Times are sort of….only okay. I guess this spectacle was primarily meant to be viewed in action — even Vogue does not have very good still shots?!? Although they did have considerably more coverage than I got, which only seems right — but…I mean. This seems shortsighted in terms of getting press for your event. Even the lighting doesn’t seem well-designed for photos? Everything I saw on Instagram yesterday had the vibe of, “what…is happening?” (Even Mindy Kaling asked the New York Times, “what is this thing about?”)

It took me a LONG time to find this explainer on Vogue that explicated what celebrities were wearing during the runway show, and why — shouldn’t that have been front and center? And that is an interesting piece, and a more comprehensive one that I was able to construct, so you should take a look through it, but even it is sort of confusing. Half of these are costumes and some are not. Vogue explains:

Costumes, couture, custom looks, archival, and current runway clothing was worn by models and stars. Mingling among them were some familiar iconic movie characters—from Charlie Chaplin’s Little Tramp to Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Chloe Malle needs to empower someone at Vogue dot com to focus on this project more intently next year; the magazine embargo’ed all the photos of the event until midnight EST, even, and, like…for what? Help us help you! I wish I could explain this better! We want to talk about your event!!!!!!
