This Privacy Policy is applicable to this site — gofugyourself.com — and any other site that may be operated by or for GFY, LLC (together, “GFY,” “the “Websites,” “we,” or “us”). It explains how we collect information from users of the Websites and how we use such information. Your use of the Websites constitutes your acceptance of this Privacy Policy. Please also read our Terms of Use, which govern the basic operation of the Websites.

Who We Are

We are Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan, together the employees of GFY, LLC. We are the site administrators of the Websites and can be reached via e-mail at [email protected].

1. What Data We Collect and How We Use It

A. Non-Personally Identifiable Information.

When you visit a Website, we may collect certain data that does not tell us specifically who you are. This is “Non-Personally Identifiable Information.” It includes things like your Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type, and the last domain you visited before coming to our Website or the domain you go to when you leave. It also includes various statistical data such as which pages you visit on our Websites, how long you stay on them, and what you click.

B. Personally Identifiable Information

We also may collect information that can be used to identify you (“Personally Identifiable Information”). We only collect Personally Identifiable Information when you specifically provide it to us. For example, in connection with your use of certain features of the Websites you may be asked to create a user account and provide certain information including your name and email addresses. You may also provide User Uploaded Information to the Websites, as described in the Terms of Use. When you create a user account with a GFY and sign in to your account on the Websites or post User Uploaded Information, you are not anonymous to us.

We may use Personally Identifiable Information to fulfill your requests, respond to your inquiries and provide other services, and to alert you to information, offers, or publications in which we think you may be interested. Any emails that we send contain links that enable you to “unsubscribe” from such mailings.

We do not sell Personally Identifiable Information or other information you make available to the Websites, or share such information with third parties. However, we may from time to time provide your Personally Identifiable Information to trusted third parties who or which need such Information in order to assist us in operating our Websites, conducting our business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep such Information confidential. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others rights, property, or safety.

Despite the foregoing, please remember that this privacy statement applies solely to information collected on our Websites. Our Websites may contain links to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy policies or practices or the content of other websites to which we link or which link to us.

We may disclose your Personally Identifiable Information to third parties in connection with a corporate transaction where all or a portion of our business (e.g., a portion that includes our customer lists) is sold or transferred. We also may disclose your Personally Identifiable Information if disclosure is required by law or as part of a lawsuit or government investigation or proceeding, or in order to permit us to exercise or preserve our legal rights or take action regarding potentially illegal activities or to protect the safety of any person.

a. WordPress Commenting

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

b. Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

c. Cookies

We may place a “cookie” on your computer. A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier, sent to your browser from a website’s computers and stored on your computer’s hard drive. Our “preference” cookie expires after thirty (30) days. We may use cookies to keep track of your choice of language, to understand your exposure to certain Internet advertisements as you use the Websites, and to gather usage data that will help us generally improve the quality of the Websites. There is a simple procedure in most browsers that allows you to deny or accept cookies. You should note that cookies may be necessary to provide you with certain features on the Websites.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website via cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. By default, this option will be left blank unless you opt in. These cookies will last for one year. If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

We also may use a small piece of code (sometimes referred to as “1×1 clear pixel,” “Web beacon” or “clear GIF”) placed in the pages of the Websites to help us gather additional information about which parts of the site receive the most visitors and other user traffic patterns, and enable us to administer the site. We and/or our ad providers collect and may share the above Non-personally Identifiable Information from all visitors to our site. If you do not want us or ad providers to have access to this information, you should not visit our site.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. YouTube’s privacy policy can be found hereVimeo’s privacy policy can be found here.

Some embedded content may take the form of shopping links that carry you to an outside website, and through which we earn a small commission. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. The affiliate services we use for this purpose, and their privacy policies, are:

Also, we may use advertisers, third party ad networks, and other advertising companies to serve ads on our site. Please be advised that such advertising companies may gather information about your visit to our Website or other sites (such as through cookies, web beacons and other technologies) to enable such advertising companies to market products or services to you, to monitor which ads have been served to your browser and which webpages you were viewing when such ads were delivered. Our policy does not cover the collection and use of information by such third parties. Those companies currently serving ads to the Websites, with links to their privacy policies, are:

d. Analytics

The Websites use Google Analytics tools to track things like visitor traffic, frequency, session duration, and page views. You can opt-out of having making your site activity available to Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The add-on prevents the Google Analytics JavaScript (gtag.js, ga.js, analytics.js, and dc.js) that is running on websites from sharing information with Google Analytics about visit activity. Using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on will not prevent the Websites from using other tools to measure site analytics. It does not prevent data from being sent to the website itself or in other ways to web analytics services.

Analytics support representatives sometimes need to access this traffic data to provide service and resolution to technical issues. Google Analytics may also contribute this anonymous data to an aggregate data set to enable features like benchmarking and publications that can help publishers understand data trends; to help with developing new products and services; and to help with optimization analysis. All identifiable information about the Websites is removed and combined with other anonymous data before it is shared with others.

The general Google privacy policy can be found here.

2. How Long We Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information. As noted above, your “preference” cookie expires after thirty (30) days. Your commenting cookie — retention of login information for quicker commenting in future — will last for one year.

Wherever we hold the data, we will apply the terms of this Privacy Policy, subject to local law.
