If you haven’t heard, The Idol, the new HBO show from The Weeknd and Sam “Euphoria” Levinson, starring Lily-Rose Depp, has already been replete with controversy and, frankly, also looks terrible to me. The first two episodes screened at Cannes yesterday, where THR reports it was “met with polite applause from the festival audience, who gave it a standard-measure 5-minute standing ovation.”  There were reports that Lily-Rose Depp didn’t want to do any press because she didn’t want to talk about her father, or accusations of nepo-babery, but I’m not sure how that’s going to shake out the rest of the week, as I believe her photocall would be…well, possibly in the books by the time you read this. I do not know if I think being in this project is going to work out great in general, but hope springs eternal. Also springing eternal? Julia Fox deciding to keep us interested.
