As Quinta Brunson continues to be a Big Damn Deal, she’s also still playing around a lot with clothes, which I enjoy even when I’m not sure how I feel about the outfits. Case in point: I can’t decide what to make of her Ports 1961 suit, although I love that dusty blue hue. Something about the tightly buttoned matching shirt, the wrap style of the jacket, the loose pants, and all that white trim is conspiring to make this seem… too big? Too baggy? Or like, from the waist down, a messy pile of linens? I see the idea, and I think it DOES actually fit and it’s just the style that’s meant to be a little extra. It’s an odd cross between a business suit and pajamas, but I’m not quite sure how I would adjust it. I’m not sure ditching the jacket is the answer. Different shirt? Different COLOR shirt? NO shirt? Wait, that might be too much with the way the jacket fits… what about a slight unbuttoning? (A Slight Unbuttoning: The Janine Story, coming soon to, I hope, an Abbott Elementary episode near you.) This might be one of those outfits that only hangs together this way, so it really comes down to whether or not you like it, and not what you’d do to change it. But maybe I’m not thinking big enough?
