Harper’s Bazaar did something neat here. They republished a piece that Amelia Earhart wrote, which they originally ran in 1929, about “how to fly fashionably.”  Definitely click through and read it, and see the rest of the snaps from this shoot, because they are really great. (It’s their 150th anniversary, and I hope they’ll be reprinting essays from former notable contributors for the rest of the year.)

From what I can tell, Rihanna isn’t promoting anything here, and I don’t think there is an interview with her, beyond this pull quote:

“There’s something so special about a woman who dominates in a man’s world. It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness, and the nerve to never take no for an answer. Amelia Earhart was such a dynamic force in her industry, setting multiple aviation records in her time. So it was a no-brainer for me to team up with Harper’s Bazaar in honor of a woman who held her own with the big boys.”

All I know is, while the newsstand cover feels vaguely generic, the inside shots and subscribers cover are great, and it’s smart of Harper’s to do this. The content is interesting, and it’s a way to get a big celeb in and on your magazine even if she doesn’t currently have anything new to sell. Win-win!
