So far, this Olympics feels about 20% more lovey-dovey than previous ones and I can’t help but think that this is in part because, as US swimmer Caeleb Dressel said in a post-swim interview that made me cry, it’s just been a really hard year. These athletes seem pretty stoked to finally get to swim these races with each other – after sixteen months of a pandemic, I imagine you even miss your nemesis — and that’s very good news for sportsmanship in general, but also if you, like I do, very much enjoy seeing hot, muscular people embracing.
