I suppose the opening of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is not the same level of unnecessary as, say, throwing a gala to celebrate the opening of a Restoration Hardware (which has not happened, to my knowledge, but honestly I rule out nothing). But one could simply open a museum by… opening it, or cutting a ribbon, and yet Los Angeles is feeling itself enough to throw a very large and fancy shindig — and the same weekend as the Tony Awards no less. This is the first of three posts covering the sprawling guest list, which is A-list enough that it’s actually bumping the Tonys coverage to later in the day. Imagine that.
We’re leading with the folks who brought sparkle, shine, and patterns to the party, including a surprise Meg Ryan sighting, a surprise Rodarte from Nicole Kidman, and a surprise Rodarte, period, in the sense that I did not expect to see the actual designers of Rodarte.
