I’m always curious whether there’s a correlation between who sits in which front rows, and what they wear when their big night arrives. For example, is Ariana DeBose supporting Michael Kors here because they’re already cooking up something together for the SAGs, or the Oscars, or anything else? I hope so; Kors at his best makes sexy, memorable, slinky stuff. Ariana was not the only person in the front row, of course — above we have Blake Lively, Brooke Shields, Camila Mendes, and more — but she is the buzziest, and she’d have a fair few things to tempt her in this show. Kors said Marilyn Monroe was his inspiration for the coats you clutch closed, but honestly, to me his main source of ideas seems to have been… Michael Kors. This is all very on-brand stuff, and he’s not trying to reinvent the wheel. Or the thong, if you will. The collection is below:
The whole thing is gorgeous coats — whoops, I wrote goats first, and THAT would have been a surprise — with some sparkly eveningwear thrown in just to remind people he can still do it, and models in smeary eye makeup that makes you think maybe they spent all night partying in these clothes.
