Emma Thompson has brought so much joy to my life via her adaptation of Sense and Sensibility alone that she could have retreated to a remote villa in the South of France forevermore afterwards and my feeling would be, “yes, you have done more than your fair share for our human condition. LIVE!” And yet SHE ABIDES and continues to bring me happiness. (Except when she breaks my heart in Love, Actually — although I’ve decided that, in the alternate universe where that movie is real life, Alan Rickman is still alive but Emma’s character has gone one to find great joy in the arms of an eternally faithful and deeply besotted professional footballer with thighs that could crack a walnut.)
