At our very first Fashion Week, we saw Nelly punch someone in the front row of a Baby Phat show; in the subsequent twenty seasons we covered it, we saw plenty of other wacky stuff, but never fisticuffs. I guess NYFW missed the drama, and both nature and possibly Cardi B abhor a vacuum, so: Hacked off about some comments Nicki supposedly made about her/her baby, Cardi marched up to have a confrontation and hurled a shoe when Nicki’s security blocked her from getting too close. The shoe missed, but Cardi was ushered outside with a torn dress and an unexplained welt on her face. We covered the Icons party a couple years ago — I got a selfie with Mariah Carey just to see what that would be like (she smells good) — and are having a wee pang for that feeling of walking out of a venue and saying, “OH MY GOD WE ARE GOING TO GET THE BEST PIECE OUT OF THIS.”
